Smoothie Haven - 5 Refreshing Recipes

FOR THE GREEN SMOOTHIE
- 1 banana
- 200 g baby spinach
- 250 ml fresh apple juice
- 1 lime
FOR THE PURPLE SMOOTHIE
- 2 pears
- 150 g frozen blueberries
- 100 ml fresh apple juice
FOR THE ORANGE SMOOTHIE
- 2 cm piece of ginger
- 1 carrot
- 200g frozen mango
- 200 ml fresh orange juice
- 1 lime
FOR THE WHITE SMOOTHIE
- 1 banana
- 3 tablespoons ground almonds
- 250 ml milk
- runny honey , to taste
FOR THE RED SMOOTHIE
- 1 banana
- 2 ripe mangos
- 400 g tin of light coconut milk
- 1 lime , zest and juice of
- 1 pinch of cardamom seeds , pods and husks removed, seeds pounded
- 1 handful of ice cubes
GARNISH
- lime zest
- freshly ground black pepper
Start your day with a fresh and invigorating smoothie. Using fresh or frozen fruit and vegetables. Here are five our favourite smoothies.
Method
1. FOR THE GREEN SMOOTHIE
- Peel the banana and cut into nice big slices on a chopping board – ideally you want to use frozen bananas, so try to remember to do this the day before.
- Put the banana and spinach in a blender and pour in the apple juice.
- Cut the lime in half and squeeze all the lime juice into the blender.
- Secure the lid and blitz until smooth, then serve.
2. FOR THE PURPLE SMOOTHIE
- Remove the stalks from the pears, then use a knife to cut into quarters, removing and discarding the cores.
- Put the pears and blueberries in a blender, then pour in the apple juice.
- Secure the lid and blitz until smooth, then serve.
3. FOR THE ORANGE SMOOTHIE
- Use a teaspoon to scrape all the skin off the ginger, then finely grate onto a board using a microplane.
- Peel the carrot, then trim and roughly chop it.
- Put the ginger, carrot and frozen mango in a blender, then pour in the orange juice.
- Cut the lime in half and squeeze all the lime juice into the blender.
- Secure the lid and blitz until smooth, then serve.
4. FOR THE WHITE SMOOTHIE
- Peel the banana and cut into nice big slices on a chopping board – ideally you want to use frozen bananas, so try and remember to do this the day before.
- Put the banana, ground almonds, milk and honey in a blender.
- Secure the lid and blitz until smooth, then serve.
5. FOR THE RED SMOOTHIE
- Peel the banana and roughly chop it.
- Skin the mangos, remove the stones and roughly chop the flesh.
- Put the fruit in a food processor or liquidizer and blend together with the rest of the ingredients. Make sure you blend the mixture well, then pour the fruit smoothie into a tall, chilled glass.
- Sprinkle over a bit of lime zest and some freshly ground black pepper. Drink straight away
Notes: You can make all these smoothies with fresh fruit, but it’s a great idea to bag up fruit combos and freeze them ahead of when you need them, which also means you don’t need to add ice.
