How to Make Your Own Kombucha | Matchbox

Sometimes you just want that fresh, tangy, fizzy feeling of a soda - without all its sugar or added preservatives. Enter: the kombucha!

Swapping your fizzy drinks to kombucha is one of the best ways to look after your gut health this year. But what is kombucha? Why are people so obsessed with it? And is it complicated to make at home? Not if you have a good kombucha set, that's for sure. Here's all the low-down on this well-loved probiotic beverage.

What is kombucha?

Kombucha is normally made of a combination of tea, sugar, and a starter (also known as a scoby). This kombucha starter is a symbiotic culture of yeast and bacteria, allowing your drink to ferment over 7-10 days time.

Many people love kombucha for their health benefits as they may contain probiotic benefits, plus potential antioxidants from the green or black tea. Regardless, we all reach for the kombucha not only for its health points, but because it's a great low-sugar alternative to soda or sweetened beverages.

How do you make kombucha?

With so many unique flavours and simple ingredients, the best part is you can even ferment your own kombucha at home.

We love making ours with the Kilner Kombucha Set, which already includes a 3 Litre dispenser, 2 handled jars, muslin squares and a twine, which covers everything you need in a kombucha-making set from beginning to end.

So get your teas, because we've sat down with Kilner to show you how you can make your own killer kombucha!
