Ingredients

  • 355 ml whole milk

    118 ml heavy cream 30 g

    Dark brown sugar

    2.5 g flakey sea salt

    227 g dark chocolate, chopped

    Homemade whipped cream, for garnish

    Chocolate shavings, for garnish

French hot chocolate, also known as 'Chocolat Chaud,' is renowned for its thick, almost pudding-like consistency. It's a silky concoction that combines high-quality dark chocolate with whole milk or cream to achieve a luxurious texture and profound taste. Sweetened just enough to balance the bitterness of the cocoa, French hot chocolate is a celebration of true, unadulterated chocolate flavors.

Method

    1. In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the whole milk, heavy cream, dark brown sugar, cornstarch, and flakey sea salt.
    2. Warm the mixture over medium heat, stirring continuously until the sugar and cornstarch are fully dissolved.
    3. Add the chopped dark chocolate to the saucepan. Continue to stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
    4. Allow the hot chocolate to simmer gently for a few minutes to develop the flavors, ensuring to stir it regularly to prevent it from burning.
    5. Once the hot chocolate has reached your desired thickness, remove the saucepan from the heat.
    6. Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and garnish with homemade whipped cream and chocolate shavings, if desired.
    7. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Remember, the key to a great hot chocolate is quality ingredients. Use the best chocolate and freshest milk you can find for an exceptional cup of comfort!
