Having a baby can be hard to handle at the best of times, what with the whole no sleep thing, being covered in unidentified liquids for most of the day, and barely having the time to eat and/or bathe yourself and/or all of the above. Then when your baby grows up a bit, you have to start wondering what you're going to feed them! 

Ahh the stress! 

If you're looking for ideas on what to feed your baby or fussy toddler then you've come to the right place! We've put together three of our favourite baby food recipes that are suitable for youngsters who are 6-12 months old that are super easy for busy parents to make, and do you want to hear the best part? You can store them in your very own mini storage jars from Kilner thanks to their new kids range!

 Kilner Sauce and Food Mill Set 1 Litre KILNER Sauce and Food Mill Set 1 Litre

Leek, Cauliflower and Pumpkin Puree 

Ingredients
Makes: 2 cups (500ml) 

  • 2 tsps of olive oil 
  • 1/3 small leek (white part only), thinly sliced, washed & drained 
  • 250g of pumpkin, peeled, seeded & finely chopped 
  • 1 cup (250ml) of boiling water 
  • 1 cup (120g) of cauliflower florets 
  • 2 tbsps of cheddar cheese, coarsely grated 

Preparation

1. Heat the oil in a small frying pan over medium-low heat. Add the leek and cook it, stirring, for 2-3 minutes or until the leek softens.

2. Add the pumpkin and ½ cup (125ml) of the water and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes or until tender.

3. Add the cauliflower and cook it for a further 5 minutes or until tender, then drain it. 

4. Process the vegetable mixture, remaining water and cheese in the Kilner Sauce and Food Mill Set until it's nice and smooth. Serve warm.

Broccoli, Chicken & Corn Puree 

Ingredients
Makes:
2 cups (500ml)

  • 50g (1/2 cup of cooked) chicken breast 
  • 1/2 cup of broccoli florets 
  • 1/4 cup of creamed corn 
  • 3-4 tbsps of cooled boiled water, breast milk or formula 

Preparation

1. Place the chicken breast in a steamer basket over a saucepan of simmering water. Steam for about 10–15 minutes or until it's cooked all the way through.

2. Add the broccoli to the basket 5 minutes before the end of cooking time, then steam it 5-10 minutes, until it's very tender.

3. Combine the chicken, broccoli, corn and water in the Kilner Sauce and Food Mill Set and process until it's smooth or the required texture for your baby. 

Berry and Apple Puree 

Ingredients
Makes: 2 cups (500ml)

  • 2 Pink Lady apples, peeled, cored & finely chopped 
  • 1/2 cup (50g) of rolled oats 
  • 1/2 cup (125ml) of formula 
  • 1 cup (125g) of mixed berries, fresh or frozen 

Preparation

1. Place the apple, oats, milk and berries into a medium saucepan over medium heat and bring it to the boil. Reduce the heat to low and cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes or until the apple is tender.

2. Use a fork, a potato masher or the Kilner Sauce and Food Mill Set to mash the mixture until it's almost smooth. Serve warm.
