How to Host a Mother's Day High Tea at Home
How to Do High Tea at Home
You might've planned out gifts for Mum, but now it's about deciding what to do on Mother's Day when 8th May rolls around. A special afternoon tea for Mum is a perfect Mother's Day activity idea that requires no far trips, just a relaxed day spent at home with your loved ones. Here's how to plan your high tea at home!
1. Decide what you'll make
What do you serve at a high tea? In this case, it depends on what foods and drinks you know your Mum would adore! We've provided a list of some of the best high tea recipes to really make her day.
On top of that, try asking yourself: What's Mum's favourite tea? What sort of breakfasts or snacks does she eat, what does she love ordering at a café? Knowing these little details and serving them will make her feel that much more special on Mother's Day.
2. Set a high tea table
We're giving you the simplest way on how to set a table for high tea. As long as you have your tea cups & saucers and other servingware prepared, all you need to do is follow these simple table setting tips.
Tips for High Tea Table Setting:
- Find a nice spot in your house with good natural light: Try somewhere with a view of your garden or backyard, such as the dining area, front porch, or patio. You can use a small breakfast table, or simply use a part of your dining table.
- Prepare plates at where each person will be seated. For high tea, side plates or smaller sized plates are ideal.
- Place your tea cups at the left of each plate, and make sure the tea cup handle is facing inwards.
- Place a knife (right) and a fork (left) on the side of the plates, with the knife blade facing in.
- If using teaspoons, place them to the right of the knife.
- If serving water glasses, place them on the top right corner of the plate, above the knife and adjacent to the teacup.
- Prepare tea towelsor luncheon-sized napkins and place them either to the left of the plate or folded nicely on the plate.
Of course, you can also be as creative as you'd like even without these guidelines! Why not try some flowers, special name cards, or set the scene by lighting some Glasshouse candles to make the room feel luxurious & fragrant? Personalise your table to suit your Mum the best.
